Kathleen & Vu

Hello! We are Kathleen & Vu. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. We understand that you have a lot to think about and have an important decision ahead of you, and we admire your strength and selflessness during this time. We also know that whatever you decide will be the best for you as well as your child, and we hope we give you a sense of who we are and the loving family we could be for your child.

After dating for almost 7 years, we got married in the summer of 2015 in a small Catholic church. The beginning of our relationship was long-distance, because Kathleen left for graduate school in Boston, then accepted a job in Los Angeles. Now, we live in the city where we first met – in Concord, CA, about 30 miles east of San Francisco, in a safe, close-knit neighborhood. We love to travel and try new foods and experiences. Recently, we visited the Philippines and Vietnam, where our parents are from. We also enjoy hiking, camping, watching sports (our favorite teams are the Oakland Athletics, Oakland Raiders, and Golden State Warriors), and spending time with our loved ones. While we have many family and friends nearby, we also often travel to southern California, Las Vegas, and Hawaii to visit them.

Vu currently works in San Francisco for a vacation rental software company, supporting and interacting with customers. He was raised in Concord by his single mother and 6 older siblings who immigrated from Vietnam in the late 1970’s. Vu gets along very well with people, easily making friends wherever he goes. His family is very excited to add on to the already existing 13 grandchildren. He is also really great with kids; he loves to play with them and the kids use their charm to get whatever they want from their Uncle Vu, and he is very protective of them. In his spare time, Vu likes to work on home improvement projects and recently helped his brother build a swing set for his nieces!

Kathleen works for a county health department, managing contracts between healthcare providers and health plans. She is the only child of Filipino immigrants and by age 5, they had lived in Chicago, Las Vegas, and eventually settled in Pittsburg, CA, where her parents still live today and is the neighboring town to us. Kathleen grew up with many cousins and friends. She is naturally very organized and always thinks of others’ well-being before herself. Her parents are excited to meet and spend time with their first grandchild. In her spare time, Kathleen likes to try cooking family recipes; she recently took on replicating her late grandfather’s well-loved spaghetti recipe!

Open adoption has always been our first choice for starting a family, due to potential health risks in becoming pregnant. We cannot imagine adopting any other way. Sometimes we talk about the places we will regularly go as a family, such as the zoo, Disneyland, and local parks where our child can enjoy the playgrounds. We also dream about the mini dance parties we would have at home, as well as the movie nights, storytimes, cooking sessions (Vu makes the best rice cereal treats and Kathleen loves making big breakfasts on Saturday mornings), and ending the days with bath and bedtime routines. We want our child to know that he/she is unconditionally loved, that he/she shouldn’t be afraid to take chances, and that all we ask for is his/her best efforts and intentions in life. We hope to share with our child as many life experiences as possible and want our child to be humbled by the diversity surrounding him/her, just as we were raised.

We hope we gave you a glimpse of ourselves and of how much we look forward to starting a family of our own. Please feel free to call or text us anytime, at 1-888-899-2398 (toll-free), as we would love the opportunity to talk to you and get to know you. You can also contact our adoption counselor, Lisa Clark, at 1-800-969-6665, or visit our website, https://www.adoptimist.com/vu-kathleen.

Again, thank you so much for reading this letter. We are thinking of you and wish you all the best. Take care.
