Emily and Tia
Aloha.
We are Emily and Tia. We are happy to know that this letter found its way to you. We can’t possibly understand what you must be feeling. Even if we never get the chance to meet, please know you are brave and no matter what decision you make it will absolutely be the right one.
As you decide if you want to keep reading this letter, we first want to let you know our outlook on adoption. We believe every child deserves a safe and supportive home with love, laughter, and opportunities to grow and reach their wildest dreams. We understand the importance of maintaining connections, and we are committed to facilitating ongoing contact and communication if that is your desire. Life gets hard and confusing at times. We believe it takes a village, and the more love a child has, the better.
We have been dreaming of becoming parents through adoption. When we got married, our niece, the flower girl, was so excited that there were two dresses. So much so that she shouted, “Wow, two dresses” while walking down the aisle. Since that day, we have been dreaming of becoming not only two brides with two dresses, something better, two moms.
We live on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii in a small, family-centered community where many other young families of different ethnicities and backgrounds surround us. Our home is less than a block from three separate playgrounds, always full of children playing. At home, we enjoy playing board games, watching movies, and playing fetch with our dog. We can be found in the kitchen almost every night. Family dinner at the table is important to us and we love cooking together.
Tia is a triplet and is very close with her siblings, she has two nieces and is very close with her extended family. Tia is an active-duty Air Force Officer and loves spending her day around airplanes. The military lifestyle will likely require another move before our family settles down permanently. Moving teaches us to be adaptable and adventurous, and we hope that our children enjoy exploring new places. When Tia isn’t working you can find her at the beach, on the mountain trails, or in the yoga studio.
Emily has one older brother and has a close relationship with her parents and her niece and cherishes time with them. Emily loves being a teacher and always finds special ways to motivate and inspire her students. When Emily is not in the classroom, she can be found on the softball field, at the beach, or watching baseball.
Our home is a non-judgmental place. We have a strong nurturing marriage built on respect, trust, and open communication. Our family and friends are very important to us, and they are all excited to welcome a new member of our family with open arms. We are not perfect. We believe that sometimes things can be messy, and that is okay. We love animals, music, color, sports, good food, art, and getting dirty. We seek new adventures and experiences and prefer to be outside experiencing life than inside in front of screens. Although, we admit, there have been some Netflix marathon nights. We try to live a healthy, active life, but we believe life should be enjoyed, and if you want cookies and ice cream, you should have them.
We welcome the chance to answer any of your questions and to hear about your hopes and dreams for your child. Please do not hesitate to call or text us anytime at 1800-252-6216 (toll-free). Or you can call our adoption counselor Lisa Clark at 1800-969-6665.
With Love and Respect,
Emily & Tia
